We're delighted to share that the Pangbourne College Community Fund has awarded grants to 11 local charities, schools and community organisations through its 2026 grant programme. Thanks to the generosity and fundraising efforts of our pupils, parents, staff and alumni, these grants will support projects that promote literacy, wellbeing, environmental education, life skills and opportunities for children and young people across Berkshire and the surrounding area.
Applications for the 2027 Community Fund are now open. If you know of a local school, charity or community organisation supporting young people, we'd encourage them to apply. Find out more here.

Year 10 have had an excellent final week after a rousing pep talk from me after assembly on Monday. I told them that next year they will be very much part of the leadership in divisions and it would be great for them to step up now. It has been good to see them do this this week in all sorts of different ways, but notably, in Div Drama on Tuesday and Div Swimming on Thursday.
I hope that the Parents’ & Guardians’ meeting was successful for everyone and that you left feeling that you have a clear idea of next steps for your child and exactly what they need to do over the summer. Eight weeks off right in the middle of a two year course is too long, so it is wise to have a few weeks to relax at the start and end of the holiday, but also to knuckle down to starting the work at some point before the end of July. As I constantly say to the students, the minute you start putting effort in you are successful. Effort in holiday work will mean they are successful.
It has been wonderful to work with Year 10 over the course of this year and watch them gain in confidence as they navigate the challenges of their GCSE courses alongside all their many other commitments. They are lucky to have a fantastic set of tutors guiding them and together with your continued support we are looking forward to shepherding them through the next tough eleven months. It will feel like a mountain to climb at times, but I have no doubt we will get there!
In the meantime, best wishes for a relaxing, restful and rejuvenating summer.

I am so sorry not to have been in school to welcome Year 11 back after their lovely post-exam break. I hope you as parents have been enjoying the break as well, GCSEs really are draining for the support team too! I really feel like I have missed out by not seeing the Year 11 over the final days and hearing (some of!) what they have been up to. It was good to see the DofE students off on Monday morning, they seemed very organised and excited for their adventure. I know that Mr Crossley was very pleased with how well they behaved on their expedition and they should be congratulated for obtaining their Silver DofE award.
On Thursday, Ms Kaur spoke with Year 11 about her expectations for Sixth Form life and they were also given a booklet of summer work for their chosen subjects in the Sixth Form. Although it is of course lovely to have time away from studying, the work they do over the summer will go a long way to helping their confidence as they make the fairly giant leap from GCSEs to A Levels and BTECs. In addition to subject specific work, it may be optimistic, but I would also really love you to encourage your child to read at least one book (of any type) over the summer. There is a huge correlation between reading and exam success, so the more students can practice this habit the better.
Finally, I wish those leaving us at the end of this term the very best of luck for your future studies elsewhere - you shall be missed, please do come back to visit us. And to all have a wonderful summer with lots of rest and relaxation. I hope to see many of you on results day on Thursday 20 August (see last week's newsletter for information on details for this), where we shall hopefully celebrate the huge effort which you have all put in.

COLLEGE NEWS THIS WEEK
Alice in Wonderland Junior Production
What a truly magical way to close out the school year! Directing our junior production of Alice in Wonderland. It has been an absolute joy taking this whimsical story outdoors into the sunshine as it really did make for a brilliantly unique experience for everyone.
I would like to extend a massive thank you to all the parents, staff and families who came out to watch and support us, it was lovely to have you all there cheering us on.
The students have worked so hard over the last few weeks to memorize their lines and perfect their characters and I am so incredibly proud of what they accomplished on stage. It was a massive undertaking during a busy term but they achieved what we set out to do brilliantly.
For now, wishing you all a fantastic, relaxing, and happy summer. Enjoy!

Cricket Match Against Marylebone Cricket Club
In a spirited display of resilience against the MCC, Pangbourne launched an incredible fightback after being pinned back at 41/5 in pursuit of a 237-run target. The recovery was spearheaded by an unforgettable counter attacking masterclass from Barney R, who smashed a spectacular 102 off just 76 balls, including 12 fours and 5 sixes. Barney R found fantastic support from Alex B, who followed up a solid bowling display of 2/37 by striking a fluent 26 during a crucial 69 run seventh wicket partnership. Earlier in the day, George M fought hard with the ball to claim vital breakthroughs, while Gabriel N showed immense grit by absorbing 47 balls to steady the middle order. Although Pangbourne ultimately fell just short on 202, the extraordinary depth and fighting spirit shown to push the visitors down to the wire is a massive testament to the team's character.

The girls have enjoyed a wide variety of activities over the past few weeks, making the most of the summer term together. From friendly badminton matches and jewellery making to board games and swimming, there has been something for everyone to enjoy. It has been wonderful to see the girls spending time together, trying new activities and creating lasting memories. They have coped particularly well in seeing through all of these activities during the heatwave!
Our focus this week has turned to celebrating and saying goodbye to those in Upper Sixth and to students who are leaving Pangbourne College. We wish them every success for the future and thank them for the positive contribution they have made to our boarding community. Our Upper Sixth students are looking forward to a well-deserved leavers' pub meal with Adelaide and Port Jackson, providing a final opportunity to celebrate together before they begin their next adventures.
We are also looking forward to our Boarders’ BBQ on Thursday, which will include games, plenty of food and our termly house closing party. It promises to be a lovely way to round off another successful year in boarding.
Should parents need to make any boarding enquiries over the summer break, please contact Mr Tom Cheney, Head of Boarding, at tom.cheney@pangbourne.com.
We wish all of our boarding families a wonderful, restful summer!
Mrs Shannon Flynn, Head of St George
