All Pupils & Parents: Years 7- Upper Sixth

Notices (Please click on the + sign to expand for full information)

  • A polite reminder to all parents about the process for absence requests.

Applications for authorised leaves of absence during the School day will only be granted in exceptional circumstances, these should be made at least a week in advance and will only be permitted if made in writing via My School Portal. This applies to whole days, late arrival and early departure.

To find this in My School Portal: from the menu, please select ‘My Children’ and then ‘Pupil Absence from School Request’.

If a pupil is going to be absent, late or collected early for an unplanned reason (e.g. illness or a transport issue) then parents need to please email the relevant Divisional email address as soon as possible. If a pupil arrives late for any reason, they should sign in with the PA to Senior Staff, Mrs Athendriou on the ground floor of Study Block. They cannot sign in at any other location. Likewise if a pupil is signing out, they must also do so with the PA to Senior Staff. Records will be checked and the pupil will only be allowed to sign out if we have a record of parental consent. If there is no record then we will need to seek consent by phone. When permission is confirmed, the pupil will wait for collection in Reception. For Sixth form students, we still need parental permission to allow an early sign out. Pupils with a driving permit will be allowed access to their car keys once permission is confirmed. If a pupil needs to be collected because they are unwell, you will be contacted by the Health Centre.

  • The Charlotte Drake Society would love to invite all girls from Years 7 to 13 to take part in a Flamenco dance workshop on Monday 16 March . This will take place after supper at 18:15 (please sign in with your PDL) and finish at 19:45.

It's a great opportunity to have some fun and let loose a bit with other girls from across the College. The amazing Maika from Flamenco with Maika will be leading the workshop.

Apologies for the last minute invitation. Number of sign-ups has been low so we would love to open the event up to girls in all year groups.

There is a small charge of £5 which can be added to your Summer Term bill. To join us, please complete the Google Form here.

  • This will be an opportunity for all members of the Pangbournian Community to hear more about the College Rowing programme and plans for the season ahead from the Director of Rowing, Ed Green. Further information about the new Boat Club development will also be shared by Lucinda Grafton, Director of Development & Community, at the meeting.

To sign up to attend the zoom meeting, please register here by Sunday 15 March. Zoom log in details will be shared ahead of the event. Thank you.

  • Final call for tickets to the Pangbournian Community Quiz on 20 March at 19:30 in Mess Hall.

With Quizmaster Don Gilthorpe at the helm, it promises to be a fantastic night in aid of two great causes: Transforming Futures, the College's programme providing life-changing Sixth Form bursaries for young people who might not otherwise benefit from a Pangbourne education, and the College's partnership with the Nabugabo Community Learning Centre in Uganda.

  • Hesperus Division is challenging the whole school to ride a combined 4,225 miles (6,799 km) from Pangbourne College to Nabugabo - on stationary bikes! Every mile counts towards transforming lives in Uganda through the HUGE Charity (Help Uganda Get Educated). This bike ride will be taking place in Hut 6 for the entire final week of Term.

Your support will help build a fifth safe house for a family in the Nabugabo community, continue the amazing work of previous students and fund projects like installing classroom ceilings at Nabugabo Primary School. Donations go straight to supplies, local builders and supporting the charity’s work.

A percentage of donations will also support our College Charities; Transforming Futures and the Pangbourne College Community Fund.

Let’s support Pangbourne Pupils as they pedal together to make a real difference. Please donate here.

  • We would like to provide an update regarding bus services on the last day of Lent Term, Friday 27 March 2026.

Due to the earlier finish of 16:45 on the final day of term and historically low pupil numbers using the evening bus services, our usual evening bus routes will not be operating on this date.

We wil, however, continue to run the station minibus service that evening for pupils travelling via train. If you require your child to travel home by bus on the evening of 27 March, please let us know in advance by contacting bursaryadmin@pangbourne.com

Should there be demand, we will arrange a bus (or buses) to accommodate those pupils. We kindly ask that parents contact us by 20 March to allow us to plan accordingly.

  • Pangbourne offers solo and pair lessons in acting and communication courses with a specialist Trinity teacher and there are some spaces available to start in the Summer Term.

The Trinity Drama syllabus (comparable to LAMDA lessons) gives students professional style acting classes in a safe space to improve their theatrical technique, characterisation, vocal delivery, physical confidence and expression.

The Trinity Communication Skills syllabus teaches effective presentation and persuasive public speaking skills, articulate and engaging interview techniques, critical analysis and creativity. These lessons provide a perfect opportunity to help build confidence for personal and professional development.

Sign up now for the Summer Term (or September) and start a course that will give your child exceptional skills to stand out and be their best version of themselves.

Contact Mrs Dee Fallon, Head of Trinity, for more details, information on fees and to register your child.

  • As highlighted by Mr Knight in a previous newsletter, the College will be running revision sessions in various subjects over the Easter break. The sessions have been scheduled to avoid pupil clashes so, in the vast majority of cases, pupils should not have to choose between two of their subjects. There will be supervised revision sessions running throughout the day for pupils who do not take a subject in a session.

The revision days will run to the normal College day start and end. Please note that there will not be College buses operating during the holidays. If you would like to take advantage of these revision days, the schedules and links to booking forms can be found here. Please note that there is a £20 charge per day for attendance and that places are limited.

  • We are delighted to offer two online literary lectures this March to enrich and extend our A Level Literature provision.

    Monday 16 March, 16:00 – Keats’s Odes
Monday 23 March, 16:00 – Othello: Motiveless Malignity?

These lectures will be delivered by Dr Diana Hallam, an Oxford graduate and highly experienced teacher and A Level examiner. Drawing on the latest scholarship, Dr Hallam offers engaging, critically sophisticated and contextually rich analysis designed to stretch students and elevate academic performance.

The first lecture explores the richness and development of Keats’s great odes, placing them in dialogue with one another and tracing his poetic voice through to To Autumn.

The second examines the nature of Iago’s evil in Othello, engaging with Coleridge’s famous phrase “motiveless malignity” while considering historical context, critical debate and changing interpretations of the play.

All A Level Literature students in Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth are expected to attend. The event is also open to Pangbourne Scholars and to Year 11 students who have chosen A Level Literature as an option.

Further details will be shared directly with students. The online event will take place in school during Monday activity time.

  • This week marks another important milestone for our Year 10s as they have officially begun drafting their second English Language coursework assignment in class. This essay is worth 20% of their final mark!

To help them stay on track and feel confident, we would appreciate your support in the following areas:

    How You Can Help

    • Review the Guidelines: Take a moment to look over the coursework guidelines on how English coursework is completed and supervised to ensure fairness, authenticity, and compliance with Pearson Edexcel International GCSE regulations.

    • Review the brief and assessment criteria with your child. Understanding the "why" behind the task can make a huge difference in their approach.

    • Spark a Conversation: Ask your child about the topics they are exploring. Discussing their ideas aloud often helps clarify their thoughts and refine their arguments before they put pen to paper.

    • Track Progress: Check in regularly to see how their drafts are developing. A little encouragement goes a long way in maintaining momentum!

    Fueling Success

Consistent attendance and a focused mindset are key during coursework weeks. We strongly encourage parents to support their children in maintaining healthy sleep routines and balanced nutrition. A well-rested, well-fed brain is much better equipped for the stamina required for extended writing.

We very much look forward to seeing their focus and hard work pay off!

Mrs Sarah Kiernan-Webb, Head of English

  • The Summer Term sees Year 10 geographers taking part in two pieces of fieldwork for the AQA GCSE course. These will take place all day on Tuesday 21 April and the day will see studies undertaken along the River Pang and in Reading town centre to provide data from which students will write two reports that will inform their preparation for the GCSE Paper 3 section on fieldwork. The day is compulsory for the completion of the AQA exam requirements.

The physical fieldwork will see students exploring how the channel characteristics of the River Pang change over its course. In particular they will look at sediment size, channel width and depth and flow rate.

The human fieldwork will see students carrying out environmental quality surveys in Reading near the Hexagon and Oracle shopping centre under the focus of how regeneration of urban space can change visitor numbers, retail space and land values.

This day of Geography will fit within the timings of the normal school day and see students depart on the trips at 08:30 and return to school at 17:15.  Students will attend lunch in College between each session. Students not on the trip will attend lessons as normal on that day.

Students should wear home clothes and bring a change including spare shoes, in case they get wet at the river. A coat or sun cream may be required depending on the weather.

Although a different format, this is a normal school day within the normal times and there is no additional cost. If there is any reason why your son / daughter is unable to attend please could you reply via email to james.capel@pangbourne.com.

Mr James Capel, Head of Geography

  • Last week we launched the Devitt & Moore Award with Year 9.

This is a supra-curricular project where students independently undertake work towards a final project outcome. They will present their outcome as an essay, object or film to a live panel in a viva at the Devitt & Moore conference on Monday 22 June.

Following the premise of the EPQ taken by many of our A Level students, the Devitt & Moore Award is designed to drive academic curiosity, passion for a particular topic and independence in study skills. Please talk to your child about the title they have chosen and which direction they will be taking their research in. Further information can be found on the presentation slides here that were shared with Year 9.

COLLEGE NEWS THIS WEEK

College Parade & Upper Sixth Parent Celebration

On Saturday 8 March we held our first Saturday College Parade. Our Chief Cadet Captain of College, Faith wrote a brief summary of the day:

“I think it can be said that our first Saturday College Parade was a success, I might even go as far as saying it was the best one of the year so far! It was really nice to welcome Prep School Heads from St Andrew’s and Brockhurst & Marlston to inspect the Parade and well done to everyone for putting on a good show! It was also great to see, and hear, a wonderful performance from the Marching Band, with some fun and familiar tunes for us all to march to. Well done to everyone who then zoomed off to various fixtures in the afternoon, it was indeed a full Saturday. But how nice to have the whole Sunday off! With the success of last weekend, I think we can expect to be pulling on our No.1s on Saturday mornings more often! I hope you all have a relaxing weekend and I look forward to trumping this Parade with the next one on Sunday 19 April.“

We were also delighted to welcome Upper Sixth parents to a special breakfast ahead of Parade as we celebrated the Class of 2026. Thomas Franks provided a truly celebratory spread, creating a wonderful start to the morning. During breakfast, guests also enjoyed an inspiring talk from Old Pangbournian Peter Rowlins (1977 - 1984), who spoke movingly about the life-changing impact that a College bursary had on his own journey. In his remarks, Peter encouraged everyone to support the Transforming Futures Bursary Campaign, helping to ensure that future generations can continue to benefit from a Pangbourne education.

National Reading Champions Quiz

Really well done to our Year 8 and 9 pupils who took part in this week’s National Reading Champions Quiz. Competing in two teams of four, they showed off their impressive knowledge of children’s and Young Adult fiction. They faced some tough questions and strong competition from other secondary schools across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, finishing 9th and joint 12th out of 24 teams.

Their participation is particularly meaningful in the National Year of Reading, which celebrates the power of reading and encourages young people to rediscover the joy of books. At a time when children’s enjoyment of reading has fallen to its lowest level in two decades, it is inspiring to see our students engaging with literature so enthusiastically and proudly representing the school.

Mrs Vanessa Saunders, Librarian

District Final - Rotary Youth Speaks Competition

Last night saw a hard-fought second round in the District final of the Youth Speaks Debating competition coordinated by the Rotary Club. Our three competitors: Ida, Erika and Otto, joined six senior teams from schools across Reading and South Oxfordshire and performed brilliantly in their debate Is neutrality in the face of injustice immoral?

The control of the proposal and rebuttals had been refined since round 1 and Ida and Erika articulated complex moral ideas cogently and passionately. Otto's control of the debate in his role of Chair was charismatic and humorous, balancing the seriousness of the debate with humility and candour.

We were in for a clear shot at the win but sadly ran over our time limit of 15 minutes causing an inevitable point penalty. We don't know the final rankings but we do know that we have an abundance of experience to build on for next year's competition and others like it. A huge well done to Ida, Erika and Otto who represented the College so well.

Mrs Elly Hayward, Assistant Head Pupil Expertise

Boys 1st XI Football vs Shiplake College

After a season of mainly positives and clear moments of success, the first team had a disappointing afternoon against Shiplake on Saturday. In a first half where we performed below the level we are more than capable of, we went in at the break 3-0 down. We responded very well at the start of the second half and in the first 20 minutes creating 4 excellent scoring opportunities which we couldn’t quite convert. Unfortunately we couldn’t quite find the breakthrough as the game continued and ended up losing the game. We have 2 final games to play as we look forward and the expectation will certainly be to improve upon last Saturday’s result.

Mr James Purdue, Head of Football

SPORT

Boys’ U18B Football vs Shiplake College

On Saturday afternoon the 2nd XI Football team played Shiplake College. We played some very good football in the first half and by virtue of “having a go” rather than waiting for the perfect opportunity in front of goal we scored 4 without reply. To help save some legs for Sunday’s rugby we took a player off and played with 10 on the pitch for the second half with the opposition also being reduced to 10 through injury. Two needless penalties and a fluked ricochet for the opposition saw us draw 3-3 in the second half running out 7-3 winners overall.

Mr Andy Sumner, Football Coach

Boys’ U18D Football vs Shiplake College

The Pangbourne U18D side showcased incredible character in a tale of two halves against Shiplake, ultimately falling 5-1 in a game of dramatic shifts. The match began with a shuffled lineup as Archie, the team’s defensive rock, heroically stepped into goal to cover for the ill Beau. However, a disjointed first half saw a clinical Shiplake side capitalise on Pangbourne’s lack of rhythm, slotting home five goals in a thunderous opening period.

Despite the dire score line, the "Mighty 4ths" refused to crumble, embodying their core mantra: never back down, never give up. Following a spirited half-time talk, a rejuvenated Pangbourne took the field with Archie back in his natural habitat at centre-back. His return solidified the "Red Wall," turning the defense into an impenetrable fortress that completely shut Shiplake out for the remainder of the contest.

The momentum shifted entirely as Will P took command of the midfield, distributing clinical passes to the wings Charlie, Ralph and Will for relentless attacking runs. This second-half dominance was rewarded with a well-deserved goal, allowing Pangbourne to "win" the second half 1-0. While the early deficit was too large to overcome, the team's optimism and teamwork in the face of adversity left supporters immensely proud.

Mr Joe Mills, Director of Sport

Boys’ U15A Football vs Dauntsey’s School

This was the first time I had the pleasure of being coach/manager to this team, and I was aware that whilst they were a strong squad, two of their strongest players would be absent having been selected for the 1st XI.

Right from the start I was impressed by their teamwork and their focus. They disembarked from the minibus with purpose and sent straight into an effective and urgent warm-up as soon as we had discussed our approach to the game. Our captain Dan, led with quiet authority and a calm and measured approach, and I was impressed by the balance of the team. Strong and powerful at the back with the highly assured (but not often troubled) Will P in goal, and with Tom S and Seb W finishing as our centre-back partnership, with pace and attacking fluency from the full backs Ethan A and Robbie B. Dan H and Tom H were the central defensive midfield pair, and both were resolute in defence, composed on the ball and always looking to get the ball forward when possible. Adam S was our creative midfield general, and he balanced mazy runs with incisive passes throughout the match. He also had an accomplished shot on him, and he was responsible for the two goals we scored in the first half. Up front we had pace and power with Jo H and Finn M on the wings and Jack P up front. A special mention must go to Harry G who showed great adaptability playing in multiple positions throughout the match as our rolling substitute, and he contributed admirably in all areas. A third goal in the second half gave us the win our dominance deserved, and I must say it was a great privilege and a pleasure to be a part of what was a very accomplished performance.

Dr Ian Hart, Football Coach

Boys’ U14A Football vs Dauntsey’s School

On Saturday, the U14As were very excited to play against Dauntsey’s. It was a game that they knew they could win. There is not a single player that did not play well, but as a team they just could not find each other with passes not quite being accurate enough. With 2 shots hitting the crossbar and 2 shots hitting the post, we definitely had enough chances but it was not to be. Sadly we lost 2-1 but the team put in an admirable peformance.

Mr Werner Nel, Football Coach

1st XI Girls Football vs Bradfield College

In a match defined by grit and physicality the 1st XI secured a historic comeback victory against Bradfield College. From the opening whistle, it was clear this wasn't going to be a friendly encounter; both sides threw themselves into challenges, making for a bruising, high-stakes atmosphere. Bradfield’s star forward proved to be a constant thorn in our side during the first half. Despite some solid defensive work, her clinical finishing allowed the visitors to capitalize on their momentum, netting twice to leave us 2-0 down at half time.

Whatever was said in the locker room worked wonders. The girls emerged for the second half with renewed intensity, refusing to let the scoreboard dictate their spirit. The breakthrough came ten minutes in. Laurel J found space in the box and tucked the ball home, shifting the momentum firmly in our favour. With the pressure mounting, Tiara P showcased her composure by levelling the score at 2-2, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

The tension reached a boiling point when a momentary lapse in concentration allowed Bradfield’s standout player to complete her hat-trick, putting the rivals back ahead 3-2. Most teams would have folded, but this 1st XI is built differently. With just five minutes remaining, Faith M produced a moment of pure magic. Spotting the keeper off her line, she unleashed a 30-yard rocket that flew into the back of the net a strike that will surely be talked about for seasons to come. At 3-3, the game seemed destined for a draw. However, Tiara P had other plans. With only two minutes left on the clock, she found a pocket of space and nestled the ball home for her second of the day, sealing a spectacular 4-3 victory.

Mr Frankie Rogan, Football Coach

Girls’ 2nd XI Football vs St Joseph’s

On Tuesday afternoon the Girls’ 2nd XI played St Joseph’s. Going into the game with no intel on the opposition, the girls were confident and ready to play. St Joseph’s scored in the first few minutes of the game, suggesting we were going to have to work hard for the win. The girls upfront worked incredibly hard, bringing the ball up the pitch and beating their defenders. We had a good few chances at goal but unfortunately none were successful, resulting in a lot of the game being back and forth between defence and attack. With some superb defending from Emily McF and Margot (with some humongous clearing kicks) we managed to keep the score at the end to 0-5.

Big shout out to Posy who also made her debut after being injured since the start of the season and Tiara for showing off her unstoppable speed through the middle of the pitch.

Miss Izzy Peacock, Football Coach

Girls’ U15A Football vs Bradfield

The girls were away at Bradfield last weekend. Knowing Bradfield were a good team, the girls were switched on and hungry for the win. Having spoken to their coach, we learnt that the Bradfield team had won all their games, with most being in the double figures for goals. This did not worry us as we went onto the pitch in full confidence. The game commenced and we quickly realised that we were very even in ability to Bradfield. At half time, the score was 0-0! It was an incredible first half with many shots at goal from all players up front, we just could not get it past their goalkeeper. Onto the second half, with the girls still hungry and deserving of the win. After 10 minutes Bradfield scored and sadly after 5 minutes they scored again. During the second half we had triple the shots at goal than Bradfield made but frustratingly just could not get the ball past their formidable goalkeeper. The girls played exceptionally well and deserved a goal, if not more. The Bradfield coach at the end of the game said how fantastic the game was overall and how hard we pushed their Bradfield team - particularly their defence. Well done to all those who played (especially as we had no subs), next time we will get that deserved win!

Miss Izzy Peacock, Football Coach

Dunbar Cross Country

On Monday, four Dunbar boys travelled to Thorngrove school for their annual Cross Country event. The event was structured as a relay, with each athlete running a 1km loop through the fields and woods of Thorngrove. JJ started first, setting us a good position in the middle of the pack, next it was Jago, who soared past many teams getting us into a top position. Seb was next, holding strong and making sure no one passed him, lastly Noah. The last loop was now very spread out with huge gaps between runners, Noah ran and closed fantastically the gap between 4th and 3rd, sadly we were not able to get that 3rd position. The boys had a fantastic run earning them the 4th sport (out of 8). It was a great afternoon out and I look forward to taking part in more cross country events next season.

Miss Izzy Peacock, PE Teacher

U13A/B Girls’ Football vs Thorngrove

In a really competitive fixture card against St Neots and Holme grange in a triangular tournament, we played 2 draws, one defeat and one win. This was the best showing of the Dunbar girls this season, demonstrating much improved team cohesion and technical skill from the girls.

Mr Fabrice Vie, Football Coach

Dunbar Rugby vs Sherfield School

Pangbourne U13A’s edged out Sherfield School in a thrilling 6-5 victory defined by clinical attacking and resilient defense. Christian and Oscar headlined the scoring with a blistering solo run and determined support play, respectively, while George facilitated the attack with two sharp assists. Despite Sherfield's persistent pressure, Elboy and Seb secured the win with goal-line, try-saving tackles, capping off a high-intensity performance that showcased Pangbourne’s composure under pressure.

Mr Alex Cheng, Rugby Coach

On Wednesday the Dunbar B team rugby played against Sherfield. The boys won by 4 tries, they played some good rugby and they ran hard. They really enjoyed themselves and were extremely happy to get the win. The boys were all very positive during and after the game.

Mr Callum Smith, Rugby Coach

U18 Rugby 7s Hereford

The 1st VII showcased a masterclass in "fast, physical, and exciting" rugby at the revamped Marches 7s hosted by Hereford Cathedral School. The boys lit up the group stages, securing clinical victories over Barr’s Hill School, King’s Rochester, and Lathallan School to advance comfortably. While they ultimately missed out against a powerful Cathedral School Llandaff side, the squad’s outstanding performance in both attack and defense proved they belong among the tournament's elite.

Last week the U16 Rugby 7s squad enjoyed a successful day out in their first tournament of this Half Term at Reading Blue Coat school. In a highly competitive group with Wellington College, Reading Blue Coat and local rivals The Oratory, the boys came away with performances to be proud of, especially as a group new to playing with each other. In their first game they had a slow start, letting in some easy tries early on to Wellington. However, the second half was a different game altogether with the team grouping together to make a fantastic comeback. Dylan B and Owen L were instrumental in bringing up the points tally for Pangbourne, which eventually saw Wellington win by only two tries in what was a great game. The boys were not given an easy ride as they had Blue Coat straight after Wellington and once again gave an excellent showing of themselves. Pangbourne surprised themselves by going up two tries early on and going into half-time comfortably ahead. Despite this, injuries and fatigue played their part in allowing Blue Coat back into the game, and with two stand out players in their squad, the hosts were able to snatch a win at the end after an end to end second half. It was The Oratory game that was most pleasing for Pangbourne on the day as we ran in six tries and kept them to a nil score, seeing us finish third in our pool and the boys taking home some serious bragging rights.

U18 Rugby 7’s Embley

Pangbourne College's 1st VII showed great spirit and determination at last week's Embley School 7s competition, ultimately securing a respectable 5th place. Their campaign began with a strong performance against the hosts, Embley School. After a tightly contested first half, Pangbourne found their rhythm, pulling away to a comfortable victory.

Next up was a challenging match against Bryanston School. In a hard-fought contest, Pangbourne narrowly missed out, suffering a disappointing loss despite a valiant effort. This was followed by another tough fixture against the eventual tournament winners, Portsmouth Grammar School, where Pangbourne unfortunately came up short.

However, the team rallied for their final match, putting in a fantastic performance against Poole Grammar School. Running in four impressive tries, Pangbourne secured a convincing win, ending the day on a positive note and claiming 5th place in the competition. The team's resilience and ability to bounce back were clear highlights of the day.

Girls’ 1st XI Hockey vs St Edward’s

Our 1st XI hockey girls played a development friendly against St Edward’s on Tuesday. This was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to play some competitive hockey during Lent term and they excelled in doing so. Despite not having a proper training session beforehand, they played like a team and scored 2 excellent team goals. The girls came away with the win and the final score was 2-1.

The girls played very well together which is a promising start for the new hockey season in September.

DIVISIONAL UPDATES

Illawarra

The past few weeks in Illawarra have been particularly busy, with plenty happening across the division. One of the highlights was the first College Parade on a Saturday this year, where Illawarra finished in second place. It was refreshing to see the amount of effort being put into uniform and the quality of the marching has really improved. This parade has really given us an opportunity to focus on the little things we need to improve on in Parade practice so we can give the final two Parades our all.

Sport has also been a major success recently, with a full schedule of fixtures for both the boys and girls teams. We are particularly proud of the many Illawarriors in the Girls 1st XI who secured a 4-3 victory against our biggest rivals, Bradfield. It was a fantastic result and a great example of the determination and teamwork that continues to be shown across the Division.

Looking ahead, Divisional Football is just around the corner and there is a real sense of excitement building. With the quality within the teams this year, there is every reason to be optimistic and hopes are high that Illawarra can put on a strong performance and challenge for the win.

Another event on the horizon is Divisional Come Dine With Me. We are really looking forward to it and it promises to be a fun and sociable evening for everyone involved. It would be great to see as many students as possible staying late to take part and support the event and present a good quality dish and environment.

With so much happening, and only three weeks left until the well-earned break, our focus is to prepare for the next Parade after the Easter Holidays on Sunday 19 April as well as the Divisional events coming up in the calendar.

Macquarie

Over the past few weeks, it has been great to see the Division continuing to get involved in a wide range of activities and achieving some great successes.

There have been some strong performances across the Division in Rugby 7s and some great results in girls’ and boys’ Football, as well as a brilliant win in the Parade on Saturday, with the Head highlighting how impressed he was with Macquarie Division in assembly on Monday. These efforts on Parade have put Macquarie in a strong position, currently leading the Parade cup. We would like to thank everyone for their effort and determination. The main area for improvement on Parade is still uniform and shoes, which is something we will continue to focus on in the run up to the last Parade before Founders’ Day.

Looking ahead, there are some exciting events coming up. Next Thursday we have Divisional Come Dine With Me, where Macquarie will be creating petit fours for the evening. We are trying to encourage as many people as we can to take part, so it should be a really fun evening for everyone. Divisional Come Dine With Me has always been a real highlight of the year for both of us, so we hope to continue this tradition in the new Division.

This Saturday it is also Divisional Football, which lots of people across the Division are really excited about. It should be a really fun way for everyone to get involved and support each other.

We’re looking forward to our Divisional Dinner which is taking place on the evening of Friday 17 April at Goring & Streatley Golf Club. This is for parents of all year groups and students in Upper Sixth only. Please book your tickets by clicking here.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Hesperus

On Saturday, we had our first College Saturday of the Term and the turnout was excellent. There were high standards for uniform and parade shoes and as a division we achieved this. Although we came third, there was some exceptional marching from the students of Hesperus and they should all be incredibly proud of their hard work leading up to that parade. It was clear that everyone had embraced the occasion and it was a successful day for Hesperus Division.

Enormous congratulations to Sophie, who has won the Senior Photography Competition, it is an outstanding achievement and she should be incredibly proud of her talent behind the lens. Sophie’s work impressed the judges with its creativity, technical skill and truly a distinctive eye for the theme of the competition.
Our girls’ football team has also had many successes in the last term, it is the game of teamwork, resilience and determination and all of the girls, especially the Hesperus pupils showed and represented these values. The commitment and skill on display have been a credit to everyone involved and a huge congratulations for winning the match on Saturday. Good Luck to them all for the next match!

Looking ahead, we have many more fixtures and opportunities around the corner, especially our Division's charity event in support of the HUGE charity in Nabugabo. Hesperus are hosting an event which will be hosted the week of 23 -27 March, as a college we shall be cycling from Pangbourne College to Nabugabo. We hope that everyone can get involved and help us achieve this goal. Follow the link here to give support for this event and any donations to this charity will be greatly appreciated. Good Luck for the challenge!

Harbinger

This week in Harbinger we have been reflecting on the past Sunday parade seeing what went well , such as having the best shoes in the college and what drill practice needs work. We have been preparing for Div Football this weekend which will be a great opportunity for the house to come together and have fun. Alongside this the Year 11 and Upper 6th have been getting on with diligent revision prepping for Sumer exams as only two weeks out from Easter holidays. The rest of the Harbinger are helping support them at this busy time but also looking forward to some rest.
